Testimonies and Sharings:

PRAYING HANDS

Want to understand love by action?  Have a read on this....
The famous "Prayer Hands" picture was created by Albert Durer, who was born in Germany in 1471, the son of a Hungarian goldsmith.  While Albert was studying art, he and a friend roomed together.  The meager income that they earned on the side as they studied did not meet their living expenses.  Albert suggested that he go to work to earn the necessary income for both of them while his friend pursued his studies.  When finished, the friend would then go to work to provide support while Albert continued his studies.  The friend liked the plan, but insisted that he be the first to work so Albert could continue his studies.

Albert became a skilled artist and engraver.  After selling a wood engraving one day, Albert announced that he was ready to begin supporting his friend as he studied.  But with all the hard menial labour, his friend's hands were so swollen that he was no longer able to hold a brush, yet alone use it with skill.  His carrer as an artist was ended.  Albert was deeply saddened by his friend's suffering.  One day when he returned to their room, he heard his friend praying and saw his hands held in a reverent atttitude of prayer.  At that moment, Albert was inspired to create the picture of those praying hards.  His friend's lost skill could never be restored, but through this picture Albert Durer felt that he could express his love and appreciation for his friend's self-sacfifice.

Albert's friend did not talk about love, he demonstrated it, and that love changed Albert's life.  Jesus also demonstrated to us what love looks like, as stated in 1 John 3:16-18.

My Testimony:

I was born in a devoted Christian family and I was taught to pray, to attend church sunday services regularly, have my daily devotion each day and other 'christian obligations'.  You will then said, then...there is no testimony.  I once thought that as well because it seems that there wasn't any 'big' changes in a life.

However, things was just not as that. Changes did happen from the moment I accepted Christ just as God has promised, that whoever receive and accepted  His son, Jesus Christ as his/her own and only Savior, there will be a new life, and that includes the priority to become the child of God.

I still remember how God did so many great works in me to show me that He really exist and He does care for me in the past. I started to question about the creation of God when I was very young and I was not satisfy with the answers both my parents and my brother gave me.  The answers that they gave me of  how this world come into exist and how a tree or a sea exist only gave me dissatisfaction and even more doubt.  I was angry once with their answer by saying: "Can't you people give me a more sensible answer?".   However, after a while,  I started to think more deeper and while I was trying to find another answer, I found no other answer other than everything are created by GOD.

Although I believe then that this earth created by God, but it does not make me know who this Jesus is. I started to know Jesus more through an exprience I encountered myself.  That was happen when i was 9 years old. I was admitted to hospital because I wasn't able to stop my fever for quite a number of days.  After my parents took me to almost every doctors in Tawau, one of the Christian doctor finally suspected that my lung was seriously infected and he asked me to take an X-ray.  After i took the X-ray, I was asked to stay at the hospital.  Doctor said I will have to be at the hospital at least a week, but normally it will take weeks.  At that time,  I really do not know what was happening.  The only thing I can remember is my parents were so worried and they carried me here and there without me walking as I was not able to even walk.  My parents are great!  They never forget to pray for me and they don't even forget to ask me to pray for myself while they aren't there.  I was taught to remember a few prayers since I know how to talk.  However, I am not good in memorizing bible verses.  One afternoon, while my father came to visit me during his lunch time, he prayed for me as usual.  After he prayed for me, I turn to him and said:  " Who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases...".  My father was amazed with what I  said and he asked me how I can remember this verse.  I said from Psalm 103:3.  I can answer him so well that afternoon but believe or not, I cannot remember a thing after that.  Dad told me God has spoken to me through a bible verse, but for me, I don't even know what that suppose to mean.  The only thing I knew was that God healed me after that.  The doctor came, removed a lot of things from my arms.

Later, God revealed Himself to me throught many life experiences through His love and cares.  I am not a very clever student and study makes my life goes more difficult.  The most pressure things in my life is study.  I am not a good student because I am a lazy type of person and can hardly understand a simply combination.  However, prayer won over everything.  Each time I pray, God listen and He helps me.  In all my important exams, like SRP, SPM and STPM, LL.B(Hons) and C.L.P.  God granted me the best that I needed.

When I first go over to England to further my  study in 1997, everything seems so unsettled.  Economy in Asia is really poor and because of that, my scholarship was being refused.  Besides, I obtained my unconditional offer from the university very late, and by that time, no air ticket, accommodation were availale, financial difficulties, my mother broker her ankle in England while she was on her mission trip at Lichfield, and so on.  I was all alone at home at that time, facing all kind of troubles, unsettle things, etc.  And thanks God, He always with me.  The only thing I did is pray hard.  It seems the situation was so impossible for me to further my study in England, but....with His grace and mercy and His love and care...He make things impossible to man to be possible in Him.  Everything is possible in God!

On my first year in England, everything seems so problematic.  No accommodation, bad house mates,  communication problems, church problems.  However...I really thank God I trust Him 100% without any fear.  And each time I pray, He answered me  and He provided everything I need. Friends from nowhere....cars, church, accommodation, etc.   It was so amazing that I cannot deny that there isn't a God around.

4 years ago, when I was reading my final year, I thank God for what He has done to me. I once thought that I will not be able to know any other friends, especially Christian brothers and sisters in Christ any more.  However, He brought me to a Christian Fellowship call Oversea Christian Fellowship (OCF).  I once wonder why God want me to stay for another year at Bristol, etc, but today, I must tell you that I am gladful to have the opportunity to met all the brothers and sisters in Christ at OCF, Bristol.  Especially during this revision time, they are very encouraging and yup... when I really need a prayer, they are always there to support me.  Believe or not, whatever happen, God has His own BEST plan on us.  What I should do is just trust and obey Him.  He will never never leave me alone, especially when I need Him.

2 years ago, God gave me a job working as a Legal Executive at Rockwills Corporation Sdn. Bhd.  And recently, by God's grace, I am also given a chance to start my chambering with Jeff Leong, Poon and Wong, an Advocate and Solicitor.  The best thing is, this firm offered me a place to do the area of law which I wanted to do the most.

GOD IS GOOD, ALL THE TIME!!!!!!

Footprints
One night I dreamed a dream.
I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
one belonging to me and one to my Lord.
When the last scene of my life shot before me
I looked back at the footprints in the sand and to my surprise,
I noticed that many times along the path of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I realized that this was at the lowest and saddest times of my life.
This always bothered me and i questioned the Lord about my dilemma.
"Lord, you told me when I decided to follow You,
You would walk and talk with me all the way.
But I am aware that during the most troublesome time of my life there is only one set of footprints.
I just don't understand why, when I needed You most, You leave me."
He whispered, " My precious child, I love you and will never leave you, never, ever, during your trials and testing.
When you saw only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you.".

May the blessing of God be with you always!!!

Friend's Testimonies columns:

I finish reading the whole English bible for the 1st time within a year on 28/1/2000.  I am very happy and I want to encourage you that it is not difficult to finish it.   - Pei San

Last Easter (1999), I paid a visit to John Wesley's Chapel (The New Room) Broadmead, Bristol.  Before I came to Bristol, a friend of mine told me about this Chapel.  It is allocated in the City Centre. I passed by this Chapel at least 50 times now, but I never take any step to pay a visit of this Chapel until Friday the 14/5/1999.  This Chapel is the first Methodist Chapel in the world.  It was formed in the year 1739.
John Wesley was a priet in the Church of England.  He came to Bristol in 1739 and started preaching to the poor in the open air ( You can still see people preaching in the open air now a day).  Wesley gathered those who responded into religious societies which met in people's homes.  Within weeks their numbers had increased so much that a new meeting place was needed.  He bought a small patch of land and built what he call ' our new room in the Horsefair'.   It was used as a dispensary and schoolroom for the poor as well as meetings and worship.  It is still known today by Methodists as 'the New Room'.

John's brother, Chrles, was also a Church of England priest.  Charles is considered by many to be the world's greatest ever hymnwriter.  Their shared mission was to take their Christian faith to the unchurches and especially to the poor who were often neglected by the Established Church. - Pei San
